Students are led step-by-step to a definite written outcome through a range of motivating activities such as role plays, discussions, games and text analysis. Each activity provides a meaningful context for real-world writing tasks such as writing e-mails, reports, letters, CVs and diaries. The book encourages students to look at the process of writing, thus developing their awareness of structure, content and their target audience.

Writing in paragraphs : from sentence to paragraph / Dorothy E. Zemach, Carlos Islam. - Oxford : Macmillan, 2006. - V, 113, [1] strona : ilustracje ; 28 cm.
When starting to write assignments in English, students need to be able to find ideas for their writing and put them into sentences Logically organise their sentences into paragraphs; review and revise their paragraphs to make them even stronger. Writing in Paragraphs provides students with focus on particular aspects of paragraph writing, such as topics, style, and development; writing support to help them find, organise, and express their ideas; language support to help them with vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation; guidance on reviewing their own and their classmates' writing in order to make revisions ; structured, graded writing assignments at the end of each unit. Writing in Paragraphs takes students from sentence formation to paragraph writing through a process approach. This not only develops students' paragraph writing skills, but also encourages them to become independent and creative writers. There are peer review forms and a grammar reference section at the back of the book. Writing in Paragraphs includes a complete answer key and can be used in class or as a self-study book. It leads naturally into Academic Writing.

Writing for Advanced Learners of English / Francoise Grellet. - 5th print. - Cambridge : Cambridge University Press, 1996. - IX, [1], 136 s. : il. ; 25 cm.
"Writing for Advenced Learners of English" is a collection of stimulating writing activities for advenced learners of English language and literature. The emphasis is on the development of free written expression through a series of graded steps. This graded approach is reflected in the four sections of the book: manipulation (students focus on aspects of accuracy, such as punctuation and editing), imitation (students work inventively within a range of genres), variations on a theme (students are encouraged to explore parallel ways of expressiing the same idea, such as writing about an event from a variety of stances), invention (students attempt more open-ended creative tasks).

How to provide appropriate feedback to students on their writing has long been an area of central significance to teachers and educators. Feedback in Second Language Writing: Context and Issues provides scholarly articles on the topic by leading researchers, who explore topics such as the socio-cultural assumptions that participants bring to the writing class; feedback delivery and negotiation systems; and the role of student and teacher identity in negotiating feedback and expectations. This text provides empirical data and an up-to-date analysis of the complex issues involved in offering appropriate feedback during the writing process.

(Studies in language testing ; 26)
Bibliografia strony 315-338.
This publication highlights the need for test developers to provide clear explanations of the ability constructs which underpin tests offered in the public domain. An explanation is increasingly required, if the validity of test score interpretation and use are to be supported both logically, and with empirical evidence. The book demonstates the application of a comprehensive test validation framework which adopts a socio-cognitive perspective. The framework embraces six core components which reflect the practical nature and quality of an actual testing event. It examines Cambridge ESOL writing tasks from the following perspectives: Test Taker, Cognitive Validity, Context Validity, Scoring Validity, Criterion-related Validity and Consequential Validity. The authors show how an understanding and analysis of the framework and its components in relation to specific writing tests can assist test developers to operationalise their tests more effectively, especially in relation to criterial distinctions across test levels.

A witty, entertaining, impassioned guide to perfect punctuation, for everyone who cares about precise writing. Not a primer but a 'zero tolerance' manual for direct action. A panda walked into a cafe. He ordered a sandwich, ate it, then pulled out a gun and shot the waiter. 'Why?' groaned the injured man. The panda shrugged, tossed him a badly punctuated wildlife manual and walked out. And sure enough, when the waiter consulted the book, he found an explanation. 'Panda,' ran the entry for his assailant. 'Large black and white mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.' We see signs in shops every day for "Banana's" and even "Gateaux's". Competition rules remind us: "The judges decision is final." Now, many punctuation guides already exist explaining the principles of the apostrophe; the comma; the semi-colon. These books do their job but somehow punctuation abuse does not diminish. Why? Because people who can't punctuate don't read those books! Of course they don't! They laugh at books like those! Eats, Shoots and Leaves adopts a more militant approach and attempts to recruit an army of punctuation vigilantes: send letters back with the punctuation corrected. Do not accept sloppy emails. Climb ladders at dead of night with a pot of paint to remove the redundant apostrophe in "Video's sold here".
